Boston, MA — August 4, 2025 — Root is proud to announce the acquisition of Kosai, a leading innovator in open-source supply chain security. This strategic move accelerates Root’s mission of securing all open source by adding exceptional talent and deep ecosystem expertise to our team.
Expanding Our Ecosystem with Alex Gallagher
Through this acquisition, Root warmly welcomes Alexander Gallagher, previously Chief Growth Officer at Kosai, as our new VP of Partnerships. Alex's impressive track record, including a decade shaping strategic partnerships and growth at Canonical, positions him uniquely to help Root expand our partner ecosystem and amplify our impact in the security community.
"Security should always enhance existing workflows, not disrupt them," Gallagher explains. "Joining Root means scaling an ecosystem-first vision for open-source security that fits seamlessly into developer and DevOps workflows."
Solving the Open Source Security Challenge
Open-source software powers nearly every modern application, yet security remains fragmented, reactive, and slow. DevOps and AppSec teams often juggle multiple scanning tools and manual remediation efforts, leaving vulnerabilities exposed for extended periods.
Kosai shares Root’s vision of automated, continuous, and deterministic security remediation that fits naturally into existing workflows. Together, we aim to transform fragmented security practices into cohesive, automated systems that protect the entire software supply chain—from source code to deployment.
Leadership Insights
"Kosai has demonstrated innovation and deep understanding in supply chain security, making this a strategic acquisition for Root," said Ian Riopel, CEO of Root. "We’re especially excited to have Alex Gallagher join us. His extensive experience building ecosystems aligns perfectly with our mission."
"The future of security is collaborative, integrated, and partnership-driven," Gallagher adds. "I’m thrilled to join Root and build on the strength of both companies to drive secure outcomes for customers and partners alike."
What This Means for Our Customers and Partners
This acquisition reinforces Root’s commitment to enhancing our ecosystem. Customers and partners will benefit from strengthened capabilities, broader coverage, and seamless integrations as Root continues to build strategic collaborations across the industry.
Looking Ahead
At Root, we believe open-source security is best served by vibrant ecosystems, not isolated platforms. With Kosai and Alex Gallagher on board, Root is better positioned than ever to realize this vision.
Together, we’re securing all open source, one partnership at a time.
